Eric joined Troop 17 in April, 2003 after achieving his Arrow of Light from Pack 499 at Spoede Elementary School.

Consistency and steady progress have characterized Eric’s scouting career – particularly his early advancement. He achieved the Scout badge in Spring 2003; Tenderfoot in Fall 2003; Second Class in Spring 2004; First Class in Fall 2004; and Star rank in Fall 2005. Eric’s merit badges were achieved at the rate of three per year, mostly at summer camp and in seven years he achieved the required 21 culminating is his Eagle award.

Eric’s major leadership responsibility came as the Patrol Leader of the Hawk Patrol where he served admirably for twelve months from May of 2005 to May of 2006. He also served as a Den Chief for Pack 499 and he completed the St. Louis Area Council’s National Youth Leadership Training Course. Eric currently serves as a Troop Instructor — training and teaching scouting skills to younger scouts and helping them prepare for their advancement requirements. 

Eric’s participation in the troop’s outdoor program has included campouts, camporees, hikes, and five years at summer camp. In recognition of his camping and leadership skills, Eric was elected by his fellow scouts in 2006 to the Order of the Arrow, scouting’s national society for scout honor campers. He has since gone on to achieve Brotherhood honors, the second highest level in the Order of the Arrow.

Eric earned 21 merit badges and his list of optional merit badges reflects a variety of interests such as wood carving, leatherwork, basketry, and Indian lore.

For his Eagle service project, Eric enlisted numerous scouts to help him build a wardrobe and benches at the Hosea House in the inner city.

Eric is a serious service-minded person who worked as a tutor with more than 400 hours of service at the Guardian Angle Settlement House. He is also working on his third home for Habitat for Humanity.  Eric served  on his church’s mission committee last year and this year and has also been a Ladue 6th Grade Camp Counselor for two years.

Academically as a senior at Ladue High School, Eric is an “A” student with a cumulative 3.6 GPA.  He participated in the Ladue High School Science Olympiad Team and placed 6th in national competition in heredity. He received the Junior Academy of Science Associate of the Academy Award and achieved firstt place in the Webster University Programming Challenge.

Eric plays the cello in the Ladue High School Symphonic Orchestra and is a member of the Thespian Troupe, the Movie Club, and the Web Site Design Club. He also serves as a member of the Ladue School District’s Technology Board Advisory Committee.

In his church, Eric is a member of Ladue Chapel Presbyterian Church’s Mission Committee, the Carillon Ringers, and the church Youth Group. He also participates in the Youth Choir where he studies voice.

In his spare time, Eric enjoys computers, biking and photography.

Eric has earned four-year college scholarships both as a National Merit Scholar and a Bright Flight Student. Next fall Eric plans to attend Missouri University of Science & Technology where he has already been invited to join their honors program.
