Austin joined the Cub Scouts at age 8, in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Austin moved to St. Louis and earned the Webelos Badge and Arrow of Light Award. He then joined Troop 512, where he earned Tenderfoot, Second Class, First Class, Star Scout, and Life Scout. Austin went on high adventure trips twice, in Arkansas and Colorado. They had a planned trip to Philmont, but it was cancelled due to fires in northeast New Mexico. Troop 512 disbanded in 2019 and he joined Troop 17 to complete his Eagle. Austin’s Eagle project consisted of making masks for public safety. He led 12 others in the creation of 175 masks for the local temple. With the challenges of social distancing, this task took about 21 weeks to accomplish. Austin graduated Ladue Horton Watkins High School. He is a member of the National Honor Society. Austin was a member of a special club, the Alliance of Students Against Poverty, of which he is currently the president.

Among his outside activities, Austin spends most of his time rowing for the St. Louis Rowing Club. He has earned earned 21 medals, and competed at the National Championships in 2019.

Austin plans to attend Indiana University in Bloomington to study biology, and attend medical school afterwards.
